Microdermabrasion—Classic Skin Renewal

Posted on:

Microdermabrasion is the granddaddy of skin renewal. Many of our patients have switched to the Hydrafacial, which provides the same exfoliation with the addition of hyaluronic acids and other moisturizing serums and peptides to enrich the skin. But there are some for whom microdermabrasion is still a first choice, whether for acne scars or because of personal preference.

In microdermabrasion, we use a small wand to blast the skin with super-fine particles or use a diamond tip cannula, removing the top layer of skin where most of the damage is contained. The wand also sucks up the particles and the dead skin, revealing a fresh new layer below. Microdermabrasion can reduce the appearance of:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • crow’s feet
  • acne scars
  • enlarged pores
  • blackheads
  • age spots
  • uneven pigmentation

This non-surgical process also stimulates the production of collagen, the protein that makes up the connective tissue in your skin.

Microdermabrasion is painless—the wand is like a light emery board and a vacuum cleaner in one. After we’ve covered every bit of the skin on your face, we apply a rich cream to moisturize, calm or purify your skin, depending on its type. Then we cover it with a hot towel to help the cream penetrate and soothe your skin.

The entire process takes less than a half-hour, and we can even avoid disturbing your mascara and lipstick, making it the ultimate lunchtime procedure. It’s an easy, fast way to appear fresh-faced, whether for a hot date with your guy or hot date with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and the DVR.

Because it’s non-invasive and there’s no downtime, it’s also a great entry point into skin care for men. They can get behind the idea of “sandblasting” their skin!

Microdermabrasion is an easy-peasy way to refresh and renew your skin. If you’d like to give it a try, just give us a call!
