What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a popular cosmetic procedure that involves pricking the skin of the target area with tiny, sterilized needles. The small wounds created during the procedure promote collagen and elastin production during the healing process, giving your skin an overall younger-looking appearance.

Because this procedure promotes collagen production, microneedling is also called collagen induction therapy. Microneedling procedures are less expensive than laser treatments and don’t involve heat like laser options.

Most treatment plans recommend 4-6 treatments for optimal results. Microneedling is most often performed on the face, but other common areas are neck, chest and scars.

How Does Microneedling Help Skin?

Collagen is a naturally occurring protein responsible for skin elasticity, so by encouraging your body to produce more, it can reduce those visible signs of aging.

Results often include:

Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
Improved skin tone
Reduced appearance of stretch marks and scars
Minimized pore size

Microneedling may also be recommended for some patients to treat acne and scarring. Microneedling can also help the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, become thicker and tighter. Though it’s not a quick fix, patients often see results after a series of treatments.

Microneedling Services at Aspire

Microneedling procedures offer a shorter recovery time than many other procedures, with skin only appearing red for a day or two after treatment. Patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure because the pen vibrates the skin while creating micro-injuries to the treatment area, then a soothing cream or serum is applied.

At Aspire Plastic Surgery, we offer several types of microneedling.

Your procedure will take about an hour and will require numbing immediately prior to the procedure to ensure a comfortable and pain-free treatment. Throughout the process, the microneedling tool is adjusted to penetrate more or less into your skin as needed for different parts of your face or body.

After your procedure, we recommend avoiding the following activities for at least 48 hours: strenuous exercise that may cause sweating, Jacuzzis or hot tubs, steam baths, saunas, and swimming. You should also avoid sun exposure and the use of skincare and makeup products during this period. We advise sleeping on your back with your head elevated to minimize any potential swelling or pain.
