Do you have a problem area in your body that just hasn’t cooperated with regular diet and exercise? Are you wondering what other options might help you get the smooth, toned look you want?

If so, a liposuction procedure at Aspire Plastic Surgery may be the solution for you!

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is an outpatient surgical cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat from targeted areas that aren’t responsive to diet and exercise efforts. The procedure creates a smooth contour by removing stubborn fat deposits from a selected area of the body.

It is not a weight loss solution, though it can help slim and shape problem areas of your body that need contour.

Who Can Liposuction Help?

Liposuction is most often used to remove fat buildup in the hips, thighs, abdomen, buttocks, breasts, upper arms, jawline, neck, and chin. It can also help contour the body after weight loss.

Liposuction requires a moderate to high amount of fat to be present in the area to achieve sufficient suction during the procedure.

About the Liposuction Procedure

A liposuction procedure usually takes between 1-2 hours.

The first step in the liposuction procedure is to make a small incision in the skin. A thin, flexible tube called a cannula will be inserted through the incision. It will move along tissues until it reaches fatty tissue, where the fat cells will be removed by vacuum with suction-assisted liposuction (SAL) or power-assisted liposuction (PAL).

Liposuction is usually done as an outpatient procedure with general anesthesia, though some patients receive local anesthesia and intravenous sedation.

The exact plan for each procedure will vary, as each patient’s needs are different.

What to Expect After Liposuction

After your procedure, our team will monitor you closely in our recovery area. Compression garments are applied to reduce swelling and support your tissue. Most patients are discharged home on the same day. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours to help monitor for any potential complications.

Most patients experience some soreness following their surgery, and you will likely also have some swelling and bruising within 48 hours. Any bruising should disappear within 7-10 days, though some swelling may last longer.

We recommend you rest for the first few days after your procedure and that you avoid lifting, bending, and straining for at least ten days. You will return to our office one week after your procedure to have your stitches removed.

Your results will be long-lasting as long as you maintain the relatively same weight.
